Faith Friends

The Faith Friends of St Edward’s Catholic First School are a dedicated group of selected children from Year 4 who play an important role in supporting and strengthening the Catholic life of the school. They act as positive role models for younger pupils and help to promote the values of faith, kindness, service and community throughout school life.

Faith Friends take on a range of responsibilities during the year. They help to plan, organise and lead weekly Celebration of the Word, encouraging their peers to gather in prayer, reflection and worship. They also support whole-school and class Masses, assisting with readings, offertory processions and helping to create a respectful and prayerful atmosphere.

As part of their role, the children meet regularly with Monsignor David to discuss ways they can continue to grow the spiritual life of the school and strengthen links with the parish community. They may share ideas for liturgies, charitable projects, special feast days and ways to involve other children in living out Gospel values. Faith Friends also represent the school at meetings and events with the local community and parish, helping to build strong relationships beyond the school gates.

The children were chosen through an application process. Pupils who wished to become Faith Friends completed an application explaining why they wanted the role, what qualities they could bring, and how they would contribute to the Catholic ethos of the school. This gave them the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment, enthusiasm and understanding of what it means to live as a follower of Christ in everyday school life.

Being a Faith Friend is both a privilege and a responsibility. Through their service, the children develop confidence, leadership skills and a deeper understanding of their faith, while helping others to feel included, valued and inspired.
