At St Edward’s Catholic First School, we believe that mathematics is essential for developing logical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and the confidence to tackle real-life challenges. Our approach equips children with a strong foundation of skills, helping them to organise and communicate information effectively.
We aim to inspire a genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for mathematics by engaging children actively in their learning. Our teaching encourages resilience and supports learners in developing a deep and secure understanding of mathematical concepts.
Fluency is a key focus across the curriculum, enabling children to apply their knowledge in a range of problem-solving contexts. By encouraging reasoning and questioning, we help pupils make sense of mathematical ideas and how they relate to the world around them.
At St Edward’s, our goal is to nurture every child’s personal growth by giving them the tools, confidence, and mindset to face any mathematical challenge - both in school and throughout life.
We have provided children in Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4 with an overview of their Multiplication Curriculum Map. This map outlines the key times tables they will be learning and assessed on throughout the year. Its purpose is to support the development of their understanding and confidence in multiplication, in preparation for the statutory Multiplication Check in Year 4.
To support this, children will have access to Times Tables Rockstars to help them practise their times tables. In addition, a folder containing helpful practice sheets for use at home is available for children in Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4.
