Art is an opportunity for children to express themselves through visual communication. At St Edward's First, we aim to provide children with a variety of artistic experiences through the use of a range of different media. Working with materials such as clay, paint, charcoal, pastel, and pencil, children develop their skills in an increasingly challenging context. We aim to encourage our students to enjoy their work and develop their creativity and critical awareness through constructive consideration of their own and other artists’ work.
At St Edward's First, we value Art and Design as an important part of children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Art and Design provides children with opportunities to develop and extend their skills, allowing them to express their interests, thoughts, and ideas, so that they can reach and exceed their potential at St Edward's First and beyond.
A high-quality Art and Design Education should engage, inspire, and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent, and create their works of art, craft, and design. Art is encouraged cross-curricularly, and through topic work and displays.
